

Anthony (Tony) Ocasio, Sr.Ocasio, Anthony Sr. of Tampa, Florida, left us for a better place on January 10, 2010. Tony, Sr. Tony , Sr. lived a long and happy 90 years and is survived by Juanita (Morales) Ocasio, his devoted wife of 67 wonderful years. Loving father of Anthony Ocasio, Jr., Roberto Ocasio, Daniel L. Ocasio, and Josephine (Ocasio) Rodriguez; and father-in-law of Carmen Ocasio, Edna Ocasio, and Victor Rodriguez. Grandpa Tony will be missed by his adoring grandchildren Robert Erik, Darrin, Alissa, Rafi, Lauren, Leanna, Arielle, Jennie and Jessica, and great grandchildren Melanie and Jared. Survived by nephew Eddie Quinones, nieces Liz Sanchez and Judith (Ocasio) Holmes, grand nephews Antonio Quinones, Miguel Ocasio III and Chevez Sanchez and grand nieces Nancy Ferrer and Jennifer Romero. He was the sole survivor of a family of 14 brothers and sisters, originally from Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He and his surviving sisters, brothers, father and mother migrated to Brooklyn, New York in the mid-1930s.Tony served in the Army and was a veteran of World War II, serving in Iwo Jima and the Pacific Islands and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. He was employed by the New York City Transit Authority and retired as a General Supervisor. While employed at the Transit Authority he was one of the founders of the New York City Transit Hispanic Society serving on its Executive Committee. He loved baseball and played "sand lot" ball for the Luis Olmo Baseball League and became General Manager for the Cafe Caribe Baseball Team of Red Hook in Brooklyn, New York winning several Championships in the 1950s.Viewing will be at the Gonzalez Funeral Home, 7209 North Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa. Visiting hours Wednesday and Thursday 5:00 - 10 p.m. Funeral Mass Friday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 12708 North Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
