Betty was born in Tampa, Florida. Betty graduated from Brandon High School in Brandon, Florida. Betty attended Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia where she earned her Bachelor’s degree. After college graduation she worked with the State Welfare department and other private agencies prior to becoming a full-time homemaker.
Betty enjoyed gourmet cooking, sewing, traveling, wine, and spending time with family. Betty volunteered with The League of Women Voter’s. She was never shy about voicing her opinion on issues she was compassionate about. Betty brought comfort and joy to all who knew her. She always saw and wanted the best for everyone.
Betty’s life was a special gift to anyone who knew her. She was a strong woman with a will and determination to live, she enjoyed family and friends and always tried to survive whatever life threw her way. She faced several medical issues, but always fought hard through them all.
Betty is survived by her husband, John; son, Barry Crislip; daughter, Caroline Crislip Meier; son-in-law Steve Meier; three grandchildren, Robert, Nicholas, and Rebecca; brother and sister-in-law James “Jim” and Betty Powers of Prescott, AZ. She is preceded in death by her parents, Everett Bain Powers and Sada Bandy Powers.
A memorial service will be held at 10am on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Palma Ceia United Methodist Church, 3723 W. Bay to Bay Blvd., Tampa, FL with Pastor Bruce Toms officiating.
