Bonnie Susan Dondiego, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully following a courageous battle with cancer. Though her time was taken far too soon, Bonnie leaves behind a lifetime of memories and countless reminders of the love and care she shared with the people around her.
Born on September 28, 1957, in Brooklyn, New York, Bonnie was the daughter of Martin Neiditch and June Neiditch (Silverman). She earned her high school diploma and went on to build a career as an administrator in the healthcare field, where she became a highly respected colleague. She took great pride in her work and in the relationships that she built throughout her life.
Bonnie found happiness in the simple comforts of home. She enjoyed spending her time watching television, especially a good series or game shows, as well as reading, knitting, and thrifting. She was not particularly fond of cooking, but she certainly appreciated sitting down to a good meal. Bonnie was someone who was happiest in her own familiar surroundings, enjoying what she affectionately considered her little “bubble” near home.
One of her favorite ways to venture beyond that bubble was to head to the casino with her sons. Bonnie especially enjoyed playing slot machines, and she had a particular fondness for the machines that featured secondary games and extra surprises. These outings were more than just trips to the casino they were opportunities to spend time together, laugh, and make memories with her boys.
Family was at the heart of Bonnie's life. She was immensely proud of her two sons, Blaine Joseph Dondiego of Savannah, Georgia, and Cole Michael Dondiego of Tampa, Florida. She especially treasured being a grandmother to her beloved granddaughter, Bristol Dondiego. One of the highlights of her week was her Wednesday dinner with Bristol and Cole, a tradition she looked forward to and cherished dearly. The birth of her children and granddaughter were among the moments she was most proud of.
Bonnie was also a loving sister and shared a special bond with her younger sister, Doriann Wegner of Brooklyn, New York. In their younger years, the sisters enjoyed spending time together listening to music from Bonnie's collection of 45 records. Bonnie also enjoyed needlepoint during those years, creating with her hands long before knitting and crocheting became such a meaningful part of her life.
As the years went on, Bonnie continued to express her love for others through her creativity. She made countless crocheted and knitted gifts for family and friends. Each handmade gift carried something of Bonnie with it—the time she invested, the thought she put into choosing or creating it, and the love behind every stitch. These gifts will remain treasured reminders of her for years to come.
Bonnie's life was centered around the people she loved. She was a devoted mother, a proud grandmother, a caring sister, and a respected colleague. She will be remembered for the love she gave her family, the memories she created with them, and the many handmade gifts that will continue to bring warmth and comfort to those who were fortunate enough to receive them.
Bonnie is survived by her sons, Blaine Joseph Dondiego and Cole Michael Dondiego; her granddaughter, Bristol Dondiego; her sister, Doriann Wegner; her stepdaughter, Alana Miller Potapchuk; and extended family and friends who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts.
Though she was taken from this world far too soon, Bonnie's love, laughter, creativity, and devotion to her family will live on in the people she loved and the memories they shared.
