Carol Ann Elwert Martin, of Tampa. My wife, Carol, passed away peacefully was surrounded by love on April 9, 2021 after a ten-year battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Somerville, NJ on July 9, 1949 to her parents, Karl and Elizabeth Elwert, who were both born in Hamburg, Germany. She graduated from Leon High and Florida State in Tallahassee. She is survived by her husband Doug, daughter Christine, brother Robert D. Elwert and numerous friends.
Before contracting Alzheimer’s, Carol was a vibrant social being. She loved art and music of all genres. She was the controller for the Florida Gulf Cost Symphony and then The Florida Orchestra. After work, she stayed engaged with the orchestra via the Tampa Guild where she was President for two years.
After we were married April 30, 1983, Carol continued to work for The Florida Orchestra until she retired to accompany me on a 3-month work assignment in Melbourne, Australia. While there, she took a three-week camping trip into the Red Center and climbed Ayres Rock and joined me on extended weekend side trips to Sidney, Tasmania and New Zealand.
On October 29, 1985, Carol gave birth to our daughter Christine Elizabeth. Carol was the perfect mom, she and Christine were inseparable until Christine went to pre-school. As Christine grew, Carol and Christine were great friends, doing many activities together’ including attending music festivals.
With two sets of grandparents living in Florida to help take care of Christine, Carol was able to join me on business trips all over the world. We loved traveling on vacations too; from honeymooning in Nassau and Eleuthera to scuba diving vacations in the Caribbean
Carol was also a big dog fan, she loved standard poodles, first, Max followed by Jack. Carol would take them to the David Islands Dog Beach every day, year after year. She was also active in Tampa Yacht and County Club’s Mainsheet Mamas sailing team and was its Captain.
The family would like to thank everyone for their genuine outpouring of love. The family will hold a private burial service. If desired, in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.
