Dan is survived by his wife, Susan Martinez; children, Angela Martinez Avery (Wesley), Christopher Martinez (Shannon), Ryan Martinez (Andria), and Daniel Martinez (Nina); and grandchildren, Lilly (25), Wesley (25), Ellie (22), Lauren (18), Ella (11), Daniel (7), Roman (5), and London (3). He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Angelica Martinez of Tampa.
Dan was born on September 7, 1942, at Centro Español Hospital in Tampa. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and was a member of the inaugural class at the University of South Florida in 1960. Dan retired after a successful career in banking.
Dan loved his morning routine at the West Tampa coffee shop with friends, but most enjoyed dinners with family and spending time with his grandchildren. Over the years, he attended countless lacrosse matches, baseball games, cheerleading competitions, and dance recitals. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren grow and cheering them on along the way.
Dan was artistic and loved music, cars, NASCAR, and Formula 1 racing. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed tennis, golf, football, and skiing, and was especially proud of having run the New York City Marathon. Dan was fortunate to travel the world and experience many of his bucket-list sporting events, from Wimbledon to the Monaco Grand Prix.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Blount & Curry Life Event Center, located at 605 S. MacDill Avenue, Tampa, FL 33609.
