OBITUARY
Mr. David Peck Bowman
August 19, 1953 – January 2, 2021
David P Bowman of Odessa, FL passed away unexpectedly in his home on Saturday, January 2, 2021. Dave was born on August 19, 1953, in Columbus, OH. He graduated from Hillsboro High School and the University of Cincinnati. Dave worked at Cincinnati Milacron at the Wilmington, Oakley, and South Carolina Plants from 1973 to 1994. He then worked at the Progress Lighting facility in Cowpens, South Carolina from 1994 until 2000. Dave joined the Mettler Toledo Company in Spartanburg, SC. He was the materials manager there until 2004 when he joined the Tampa division. He retired on December 30, 2020. Dave was preceded in death by father, Richard Bowman; brother, Robert Bowman; two uncles and one aunt. Dave left behind his best friend and wife, Janet Hussey Bowman, whom he married in 1980. He is also survived by his son, David Richard Bowman (Dana Gasparich) of Charleston, SC; daughter, Jessica Ann Bozolo (John) of Trinity, FL; grandson, David Elliott Bowman; mother, June Peck Bowman of Cape May in Wilmington, OH; brothers, Steve Bowman (Eileen Taylor) of Wilmington, OH and Mark Bowman (Carol Stuart) of Mason, OH. He also left behind two uncles, one aunt, 14 nieces and nephews, and 4 great nieces and nephews. Dave adored his family and could often not speak of his love for them without getting emotional. Dave loved music and was a highly talented pianist and tenor vocalist in church choirs in Ohio and South Carolina. Dave especially enjoyed listening to the music group Chicago. Celebrate his life as you listen to their music. Blount & Curry Funeral Home in Oldsmar, FL and the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro, OH are serving the family. There will be a private graveside service in Hillsboro, OH for Dave at the convenience of his family. A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to Ohio Living Cape May (175 Cape May Dr. Wilmington, OH 45117) or to the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation (12902 Magnolia Dr. MBC-FOUND Tampa, FL 33612).

David was a remarkable man. I have known Dave for close to 13 years, most on a professional level. He was an inspiration to all that I have met thru him. He was a devoted and loving man, with that sense of humor that no one could walk away from without a smile or laugh. Dave, you will be missed by all who have known you both personally and professionally. The pleasantry of your new life begins, and an enjoyable one it will be! Thoughts and prayers delivered.

Dave marched in Nixion's inaugural parde, with me. He played the tuba. I usually played euphonium. Why? because I was supposed to play tuba and I told Dave I can't make it that far carying a giant tuba. The thing is to heavy, I'll never make it. Dave said he could do it, and he did. He was that kind of guy!

It has taken me days to get over the shock. Dave - I miss you already. I had an Excel report that I kept getting an error message. You always came to my rescue. I will miss your jokes, your sarcasm, all the chats about your beloved Jan, your brothers, your hilarious stories about your mom [and how your relative(s) would sneak forbidden snacks into her room), your talks of where you grew up, the lake, the barn, your jokes, etc. I'll miss hearing about that Mustang of yours, Chicago (and the time you ran into them at the airport!) I'll miss nagging you to eat healthier and exercise. You always complained about joining my version of "The Biggest Loser" and you would argue with me because you didn't want to lose weight [except for when you were preparing for your daughter's wedding.] I'll miss asking you, "Hey Dave: how are you?" and you telling me "I'm better than nothing!" 9 years of laughter, great stories, receiving your immense knowledge (thanks for all of the Excel tutorials), and your friendship. Thank you Dave - you were one class act. May you rest in peace.
Janet, David, and Jessica: my deepest condolences. Your husband/father left a huge gap in our hearts.
I leave you with this: "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." Romans 8:18
May God bless you and comfort you.

I am so saddened, rather crushed, by the news of Dave's passing. It was a joy to work with Dave (I called him DB) in my 6 years here. He had such an impact on my work here over the years, and was always so quick to help and guide me in my various projects that required his expertise. He consistently made me laugh with his words.. those "Bowmanisms." I told him on my last day before my time off over Christmas how much I would miss him. His family and loved ones are in my prayers.

We were very saddened to hear that Dave had passed, just on the threshold of him retiring and getting to enjoy more time with family and his hobbies. We worked together at Mettler Toledo for almost 15 years and his dedication, loyalty and skills played a big role in the growth of that company. Dave will be missed by all the colleagues he managed, helped and supported over the many years he was working. May Dave rest in peace.

I met Mr. Bowman when I was in middle school because I had become best friends with his daughter, Jessy, and he was always so warm, kind, and funny. I loved being around him and hearing his jokes--there was never a dull moment with him. He touched many, many lives and made the world a better place, and he will be sorely missed. Thinking of you all right now.

Kendall and I send our deepest condolences to Janet and the family. We are truly saddened to learn of Dave’s passing.
I had the great good fortune to work with Dave from the time he joined Mettler Toledo in Spartanburg, SC until I retired at the end of 2018. He was a very smart, capable business professional and a wonderful person. He was fun to work with and was liked and respected by everyone.
Kendall and I join with all of Dave’s family and friends to celebrate the life of a good man, well lived. Rest In Peace, Dave.

My heartfelt condolences to the Bowman family. I knew Dave for 14 years - I recall in my early years at Safeline - Mettler how we used to exercise by walking around the old Benjamin Road building - and Dave sure kept a stride. He was someone who could be counted on for help with Excel spreadsheets, beyond his knowledge of the business and legacy of systems, he always made time to help someone else.
I never saw him get mad, thus he always found a way to approach issues in a positive way. May God Bless Dave for the lives he touched and the time God put him in our lives.
Respectfully,
Dora

I met Dave over the phone early on in my career at MT since I was working in Columbus at the time. We always had some fun chats over the report called GSTAT. We both loved Excel and analyzing and I appreciated that he was always so knowledgeable on the report!
Fast forward a few years and I moved to Tampa. We worked together on the warehouse move to the new building and multiple other projects. He always found a way to make us chuckle.
My deepest condolences go out to Dave’s loved ones. May he live forever in the wonderful memories of him.

I knew Dave for 15 years at Mettler Toledo and, like so many of his friends here have already said, he was a very kind, witty man. He also built a reputation as a "get it done" person who helped me numerous times while I was in marketing and now sales. For this to happen so soon after his well-deserved retirement breaks my heart for both him and the family he has left behind. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

I am very saddened to hear about the passing of Mr. Bowman he was the very first person to give me a chance at Mettler Toledo he hired me on the spot and told me he saw something in me. He was a very fair man and always helped me and others out with great advise and wisdom. He was a great man and will be deeply missed.

It's clear that Dave impacted everyone around him. If you read through the comments you can see that he was the same genuine person no matter who you were or what position you held. A stand-up guy that we will forever cherish. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Bowman family.

Not long after I started at Mettler-Toledo, about 4 years ago, Dave reached out to my management looking for someone in my department that drove a Mustang. I was that person. Dave had just replaced the tail lights on his Mustang and was curious if I wanted to have his tail light harness to upgrade my tail lights. I no longer drive my Mustang, but I often think back to my upgraded tail lights and the kindness I received from someone that I did not know or directly interact with at the company.
I was fortunate to interact with Dave more frequently on a variety of different projects over the years. It was clear to me that my first impressions were a common occurrence when interacting with Dave. He was a very kind and giving person. The way he tackled challenges and made time for anyone will stay with me always.

Dave was a gem of a person and made a positive impact on my life. There was not a single moment in my 13 years working with him where he did not make time to help or simply lend a listening ear when I needed something. He was authentic, witty, and had a sense of dry sarcasm that would put a smile on anyone's face - smiling just thinking about it. He meant a great deal to me and I am very grateful for the years we worked together. To the Bowman family, my family and I will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Wishing you peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Dear Janet and family,
I do not consider Dave a work friend but a true friend. I am really at a loss of words to describe how badly I will miss him in my life. I have so many memories that involve him. A trip to New Orleans, winning trivia in a pub in NY., a plane trip when a poor woman had to sit between us. I could go on for hours. He played a big part in the decision for me to move to Tampa.+

My deepest condolences to the Bowman family for your sudden loss. When I moved down from Ithaca, I was very pleased to discover a Clemson brother here in the office. We shared Clemson stories and enjoyed celebrating the Tigers recent successes. But now Dave, with our performance in the recent Sugar Bowl, you have left me to the mercy of the Ohio State fans! I guess you had another pressing engagement. Godspeed Dave! I will miss you.

My heart is broken. I had a great privilege of working with Dave for almost 15 years and it was always a pleasure to exchange ideas how to "do it once - do it right and move on". He was an Excel and Crystal Report master. But above all, he was a great human being -generous, witty and thoughtful - and I was fortunate enough to consider him my friend. My deepest condolences to Janet and the rest of the Bowman family.

My heart just fell to pieces when I heard about Dave. He was a special person. He was always so helpful - no matter what the issue. I recall one time in particular where he went above and beyond in helping accomplish a difficult project. We decided to give away rubber mallets at one of our trade shows. We wanted to label the mallets in some fashion. Dave found the mallets and the plan was to wood burn our message into the mallets handle. Well like any good plan it doesn't always work out - but Dave was undeterred. The problem was that the mallet handles were slightly rounded (a feature not identified when ordered) and the wood burning process would only work on a flat surface. Dave quickly resolved the problem by shaving off an ever so small piece of the handle for the wood burning process to work. As luck would have it the shaving had to occur on both sides of the handle as we planned to have a message on both sides. Dave never complained - he just resolved the issue. The mallets were a big hit at the trade show. Still to this day and always when I see the mallets I always chuckle. Of course, this is only one instance in a very long string of things Dave was always willing to help with. As other people have mentioned he is an absolute legend in the office when it comes to Excel. His knowledge was incredible and I always appreciated the mini lessons he gave. I will keep him and the family in my prayers.

Dave will be missed by all. Such a good man with a large heart willing to help anyone with a question or help solve a problem. I always enjoyed stopping by and chatting whenever i had a question or just to see how things were going with you. I always asked when you would retire and that was actually the last thing we talked about a couple weeks ago. We talked for about an hour about work, life, retirement, & family . You may not be able to be here on earth to spend retirement days with your wife as you planned but you will be in Heaven and in our hearts watching down on all of us. May the Lord take care of your family in this difficult time. You will be missed Dave.

To all of Dave's family prayers are with you at this time with the sudden passing of Dave. He will be missed very much. I got to know him in mid 2017 and his work humor always made the day a bit easier. Plus how he did his "magic" with excel spreadsheets as he was the wizard.

Dear Janet and family,
I am very saddened to hear about your sudden loss. I talked to Dave last Thursday after our daily meeting, getting his personal cell phone number to stay in touch, and perhaps meet again at Surf Shack once the pandemic is under control and it would be safe for both of you to come out.
I am still in shock that he passed just a short time after he retired. Please let me know if I can help in any way – I still live just around the corner.

Bowman Family,
I had the privilege of working with Dave for several years. We enjoyed ribbing each other as our responsibilities intersected. We respected each other as colleagues and friends. Dave cared to do things the right way while still doing a very demanding job. He took the time to make sure things were done right and took responsibility when things did not happen the way they should. He was a very stand up gentlemen and gave you straight answers even if they were not the ones you wanted. I counted it a privilege to call Dave a friend and I will miss him. My prayers are with your family during this time. God Bless.
