On December 1st, 1920, the average price of a home was $6,296, a car was $525, a gallon of gasoline was $.21 and a first class postage stamp was $.02. And, in Saginaw, Michigan, August and Emma George gave birth to their 9th child and named her Dorothy Kathleen. After high school, she went to work as a bookkeeper for her brother at George Electric for several years.
After WWII in 1947 you could get a new home for $6,700, a car for $1,300, a gallon of gas was $.23, and a stamp was up a penny to $.03. And, Dorothy married the love of her life, Jim Biegert. They moved several times to other states, and in the late 1950's, decided to make Florida their forever home.
In 1963 a home was $12,600, cars cost $3,233, gas was $.29 a gallon, and a stamp was still $.03. And Dorothy, while working for the Tampa Coal Company, was invited to join the Pilot Club in Tampa. Its mission is to influence positive change by preparing youth and young adults for service and encouraging brain safety and health. They supported the community by sponsoring a horse at the Bakas Equestrian Center for the use of special needs riders. On Bread Day, they sold mini loaves of Wonder Bread. They also operated a Cotton Candy truck at the Florida State Fair and "slung beer" at Bucs games, which Dorothy really enjoyed. The brews were nearly as big as her 4 foot 10 inch body!
In 1983 Dorothy and Jim joined Messiah Lutheran Church. Homes were $75,300, a car was $14,500, gas was $1.24, and stamps were $.20.
She used her financial skills to support Messiah Church's numerous committees, where again she gave her time and energy without hesitation. She took great pride in counting the money collections until her eyesight finally failed in 2019.
In 1994, she lost her only love, Jim. It was a very difficult time for her but her family and church were there to support her through it.
Dorothy became the personal assistant to Jim Walter Senior, CEO of Jim Walter Corporation. In fact, she worked for Jim Walter Junior supporting his finances until the last few weeks of her life.

Dorothy went through 100 years of changes in her life. Along the way, she made more friends than she could count. She loved and was loved, which is the most you can ask out of life. She is preceded in death by Jim and her siblings and parents, but left behind nephews and nieces Bob George, Alan Pagels, Randy George, Myra [George}, Patricia Watts, and Deborah Oxley.
