Elaine Cogan Carbonneau

She was born February 2, 1933 in Saratoga Springs, New York, the daughter of James A. and Margaret Whalen Cogan. Widow of John Carbonneau, she was also pre-deceased by her parents, her brother James F. Cogan of Saratoga Springs, New York, and her sister, Margaret C. Cahill of Newark, Ohio. She is survived by her sister-in-law Carole Cogan, dear friends and many nieces, nephews and their families.

Elaine earned the designation of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and spent 35 years in the insurance business, retiring in 1986. John and Elaine traveled extensively during their long retirement together. She was active in volunteer work in Tampa at St. Joseph's Hospital for more than 40 years, and was historian and founder of Friends of Sacred Heart Church in Tampa, Florida. For their joint efforts, she and John were awarded the St. Jude medal by the Diocese of St. Petersburg.

She sang for many years with the Sweet Adelines, a women's barbershop harmony group and recently enjoyed singing with a barbershop group at Aston Gardens at the Courtyards in Sun City Center.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on May 21, 2025, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 702 Valley Forge Boulevard, Sun City Center, Florida 33573 (813-634-2328). Visitation will take place prior to the Mass. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Island Pond, Vermont.

The family would like to thank all of Elaine’s loved ones for their prayers, rosaries and countless kindnesses. Aston Gardens at the Courtyard Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care staff members, St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Prince of Peace Catholic Church and all of the LifePath Hospice Purple Team members gave Elaine their devoted care and attention during her years in Sun City Center and especially during her last months.

In lieu of flowers the family asks loved ones consider donations to The American Cancer Society, LifePath Hospice (Purple Team) or Prince of Peace Catholic Church: Elaine and John’s Parish during their years in Sun City Center, Florida.
