Esperanza Leal

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful Mami, Esperanza Leal. She left our world on Friday, June 28 after fighting her battle with long term illness and pain. Mami was an amazing mother who found extreme joy being with her children and grandchildren and establishing a home where she frequently hosted family gatherings to surround herself with the love of her children, family, and friends.

Esperanza was born on April 13, 1942 in Cidra, Puerto Rico to José Julián Rivera and Virginia Díaz. She grew up on her family farm and frequently enjoyed sharing her happy childhood memories from living and working in that beautiful, mountainous region of the Island.

Esperanza, Mami, will be remembered for her kindness and generosity but mostly her sense of humor—she loved a good joke and often found humor in the most ordinary situations. She was passionate about her plants and proudly maintained an extensive collection of orchids.

Esperanza is survived by her children, Evelyn Fernandez and husband Rafael Paz, Yolanda Castille, and husband Dale Castille, Sandra Rivera and husband Joel Rivera, and Gilberto Contreras and wife Yvette Contreras; her grandchildren, Lizzette Contreras, Solimar Celestine, Gilberto Contreras Jr., Wilfredo Castillo Jr., Jeremiah Castillo, Aubrey Castille, Yasha Celestine, Jesua Rivera, and Jonathan Rivera; great-grandchildren, Iziah González, Brook’lyn Young, Leo Contreras, Anthony Castillo, Wilfredo Joe Castillo, Sophia Contreras, Jaydon Rivera, Yonel Rivera, Mila Salcedo, Elliot Adams, Milán Del’Orso; and great-great-grandchildren, Zayden A. González and Kairo González.

Her children welcome your happy memories and your prayers to cherish her life and her legacy. Her desires were to be immediately cremated and to be interred with her beloved decedents, Juan Leal and Juanito Leal in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

Con el corazón roto anunciamos el fallecimiento de nuestra hermosa Mami, Esperanza Leal. Dejó nuestro mundo el viernes 28 de junio después de librar su batalla contra una enfermedad y un dolor prolongados. Mami fue una madre increíble que encontró una alegría extrema al estar con sus hijos y nietos y establecer un hogar donde frecuentemente organizaba reuniones familiares para rodearse del amor de sus hijos, familiares y amigos.

Esperanza nació el 13 de abril de 1942 en Cidra, Puerto Rico, hija de José Julián Rivera y Virginia Díaz. Creció en la granja de su familia y con frecuencia disfrutaba compartir los felices recuerdos de su infancia al vivir y trabajar en esa hermosa y montañosa región de la isla.

Esperanza, Mami, será recordada por su amabilidad y generosidad, pero sobre todo su sentido del humor: le encantaban los buenos chistes y a menudo encontraba humor en las situaciones más comunes. Le apasionaban sus plantas y mantenía con orgullo una extensa colección de orquídeas.

A Esperanza le sobreviven sus hijos, Evelyn Fernández y su esposo Rafael Paz, Yolanda Castille y su esposo Dale Castille, Sandra Rivera y su esposo Joel Rivera, y Gilberto Contreras y su esposa Yvette Contreras; sus nietos, Lizzette Contreras, Solimar Celestine, Gilberto Contreras Jr., Wilfredo Castillo Jr., Jeremiah Castillo, Aubrey Castille, Yasha Celestine, Jesua Rivera y Jonathan Rivera; bisnietos, Iziah González, Brook’lyn Young, Leo Contreras, Anthony Castillo, Wilfredo Joe Castillo, Sophia Contreras, Jaydon Rivera, Yonel Rivera, Mila Salcedo, Elliot Adams, Milán Del’Orso; y tataranietos, Zayden A. González y Kairo González.

Sus hijos agradecen sus felices recuerdos y sus oraciones para apreciar su vida y su legado. Sus deseos eran ser cremada inmediatamente y enterrada con sus queridos difuntos, Juan Leal y Juanito Leal en San Luis Potosí, México.
