She was born on January 4, 1931 in Coamo, Puerto Rico the daughter of Felipe Santiago and Ramona Rivera. Eugenia was one of nine children.
At age 19, she entered the convent of Hermanitas de los Ancianos Desamparados and traveled internationally on various missions for the Catholic Church. She left the order after serving twenty years as a sister and a trained nurse, but she remained devoted to the Catholic faith for the rest of her life.
She moved to Rochester, New York where she met the love of her life, Jose Francisco Castillero through mutual family friends. They were married in Francisco’s hometown of Guarare, Panama on July 22, 1973. Eugenia and Frank opened their hearts and home to Margarita Maria (Alonso) in 1977.
After moving to Tampa in 1981, Eugenia pursued a career as a registered nurse with several local Tampa hospitals and in home health care positions.
Eugenia’s love for her nieces and nephews manifested into her becoming the favorite aunt of many, “Tia” and “Mami” to all.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband, brothers Ventura, Julian, Jorge, Eugenio, Pascasio and Flor; and by her sister Maria.
She is survived by her sister Alejandrina, her daughter Margarita Maria Alonso, her son-in-law Alex Antonio Alonso and by many nieces and nephews.
On August 20, 2022, a funeral mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 821 S. Dale Mabry Highway at noon and a viewing will be held at Gonzalez Funeral Home, 7209 N. Dale Mabry Highway, from 2pm to 6pm. She will be buried in La Paz Del Señor cemetery in Aibonito, Puerto Rico next to her husband Frank Castillero.

Ella nació en Coamo, Puerto Rico el 4 de Enero del 1931. Hija de Felipe Santiago y Ramona Rivera. Eugenia era una de nueve hijos.
A la edad de solo 19, entró al convento de las Hermanitas de los Ancianos Desamparados y viajó por los Estados Unidos e internacionalmente trabajando en diferentes misiones de parte de la iglesia Católica. Ella salió del convento después de 20 años trabajando como monja y enfermera, pero mantuvo su fé a la vida Católica por el resto de su vida.
Eugenia después se mudó a Rochester, New York donde por medios de familiares entre las familias conoció al amor de su vida, Jose Francisco Castillero. El 22 de Julio del 1973 se casaron en el pueblo de Guarare, Panama, dónde nació Francisco. Eugenia y Francisco abrieron sus corazones y casa en el año 1977 para adoptar a su hija, Margarita Maria (Alonso).
Después se mudaron a Tampa, Florida en el año 1981 y Eugenia siguió su carrera como enfermera en varios hospitales locales. También trabajó como enfermera visitando a pacientes en casa.
El amor que Eugenia tenía para todos sus sobrinos y seres queridos le manifestó el apodo de "Tia, Titi o Mami". Todos la querían como la favorita.
Antes de Eugenia, sus padres ya fallecidos Felipe y Ramona. También fallecidos, su esposo Francisco, sus hermanos Ventura, Julián, Jorge, Eugenio, Pascasio, Flor y su hermana Maria. La que aún le sobrevive es su hermana Alejandrina Santiago. También cómo parte de su familia directa está su hija Margarita María Alonso, su yerno Alex Antonio Alonso, y muchísimos sobrinos y seres queridos.
El día 20 de Agosto del año 2022 tendremos una misa en la iglesia de Christ the King Catholic Church, 821 S. Dale Mabry Highway al las 12 del mediodia y un velorio seguido en la funeraria Gonzalez Funeral Home, 7209 N. Dale Mabry Highway, de las 2pm hasta las 6pm para darle la despedida para luego darle su cristiana sepultura en el cementerio La Paz Del Señor en Aibonito, Puerto Rico al lado de su esposo Francisco Castillero.
