Geneva Pearl Williams

Geneva was born on July 22, 1938, and raised in Maxey Holler, just above Mitchell Creek in London, Kentucky. Born Geneva Pearl Maxey, she was the daughter of Dan Maxey and Lilly Maxey.

In 1955, at the age of 17, Geneva married Ballard Hicks, also of London, Kentucky. On July 10, 1957, while stationed at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, they welcomed their first son, Danny Lee Hicks. Six years later, the Air Force transferred the family to MacDill Air Force Base in Florida. Their second son, David Ballard Hicks, was born on September 16, 1965.

Following her divorce, Geneva became a single mother raising her two sons. She began working on the food truck at MacDill Air Force Base, providing meals for pilots and crew members on the active flightline. She worked from sunup to sundown to support her children while making sure they attended church at Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God, located around the corner from their home.

Geneva worked her way from the flightline to a cashier position at the MacDill Base Exchange. She later became Head Supervisor at AAFES and retired in 2000 after 35 years of service.

Geneva later married James “Jim” Williams, a painter. She became a member of South Tampa Fellowship, where she served as head of intercessory prayer in her Sunday school class.

Her oldest son, Danny, retired from the United States Air Force in 2004. Geneva’s husband, Jim, passed away in 2016, and her youngest son, David, passed away in 2017. Through these losses, Geneva never lost her faith.

As she neared the end of her life, Geneva assured her family that she did not fear death and was ready to go home and meet Jesus in Glory.

A Celebration of Geneva’s life will be held Monday August 31, 2026, at Blount & Curry Life Event Center located at 605 S MacDill Ave Tampa, FL 33609. There will be a Gathering of Family from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm followed by a Memorial Service beginning at 6:00 pm.
