Grace C. Phillips

PHILLIPS, Grace C, Phillips, Grace C. of Tampa, FL. passed away on January 2, 2015. She was born in Scranton, Penn- sylvania to Ralph and Mary Sarno. Married to Henry Phillips for 52 years, she was a devoted wife and loving mother of Catherine Phillips Sanchez and David Phillips. Grace was a registered nurse early on in her married life but left the profession to raise her children. Upon the children's graduation from college, Grace returned to school where she earned her BA in Psychology from Rutgers University. Grace was an elegant woman who lived almost her entire adult life in Metuchen, New Jersey where she developed a passion for gourmet cooking, theater, entertaining, travel and community service. She volunteered her time for the Women's Auxiliary at JFK Hospital, and the Juvenile Review Board of Metuchen. She was a devout member of St. Francis Cathedral for over 60 years. Grace was preceded in death by her husband Henry Phillips; grandson Brian Hollingsworth; and brother Larry Sarno. Leaving behind those who will love and cherish her memory forever are her children Cathy and David; their spouses Rolando Sanchez and Pamela Phillips; her sister Ann Brown; brother Carmen Sarno; grandsons David and Daniel Sanchez; and great grandchildren Veronica and Roland Sanchez, Samantha, Nathaniel and Benjamin Puddicombe, and Noah and Ty Hollingsworth. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00am Thursday January 8, 2015 at the Chapel of Christ the King in Tampa. At a later date a memorial service will be held in Metuchen, New Jersey at St. Francis Cathedral.
