

He graduated from Emporia State University, KS with a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in Psychology and Sociology, and did further studies at the University of Kansas in the Department of Human Development.
Greg was married to Jeanie Keislar Barnes on January 7, 1978.
His career spanned from Community Housing Ministries in St. Joseph, MO while Mayor of King City, MO to Director of the Village Church Food Pantry in Overland Park, KS. For many years he served as Executive Director of the YMCA Youth Service Bureau in Fort Wayne, IN before retiring and relocating to Florida.
Greg was a life-long and committed Presbyterian and family man. A favorite mantra of his was “Trust God, Trust God, Trust God.” Greg was an avid drummer and lover of sacred music. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Kansas Jayhawks and his two beloved grandsons. His delightful sense of humor and selfless service to others are memorable and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Jeanie; mother, Joyce; daughter, Jaima; son-in-law, Justin; grandsons, Jackson and Jensen; his brother, Robert; step-sister, Janet and her husband, John; foster brother, Bill; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob, and step-fathers, Otto and Fred.
A memorial service and interment of ashes will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 1 at Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, Tampa, Florida.
