Haven Whiteside, 92 of Temple Terrace, died March 3, 2024. He was known as an educator, environmentalist, and lover of peace. He thrived on helping others as reflected in his later years in the Peace Corps and Habitat for Humanity. His commitment to peace through the Christian Peacemaker Teams included confronting violence in Colombia as well as Baghdad, Iraq, shortly after the American invasion following 9-11. He employed his love of nature through countless hours of labor at Woodmont Park in Temple Terrace.
Haven was predeceased by his first wife Rose and his second wife Ann as well as his son Jonathan. He is survived by his daughters Joanna and Katie and his son, Matthew and foster daughter, Susan as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 W Platt, Tampa, at 2:00 pm March 20. In place of flowers, please direct donations to Hyde Park UMC “care of the homeless”.
