Henry Cook Brown, 76, of Tampa, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 17, 2018. He was born on Oct. 25, 1942 at Tampa General Hospital. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Ruth Murray Cook and Earl Jennings Brown, Jr.; and his grandparents, Ruth Houlihan Cook and Dr. Henry Cook. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 50 years, Mary Judy Brown; his daughter, Kimberly Swann Brown Maynell (Carey) and his son, Hank Brown (Julie); his precious grandchildren Emerson Swann Brown, Henry Cook Brown, III (“Tripp”), Mackenzie Swann Maynell, Mac Carey Maynell and step-granddaughter Olivia Maynell. Henry attended Gorrie Elementary, Wilson Junior High School, H.B. Plant High School and graduated from Georgia Southern College with a degree in business and marketing. Henry was a Senior Vice President of Tampa Federal Savings and Loan Association and Glendale Federal Savings and Loan. He owned and designed Festive Floats of Florida. He was certified by the State of Florida as a Special Education Instructor.
Henry was a member of the Leadership Tampa Class of 1986, Co-President of Wilson Junior High School PTA and President of H.B. Plant High School PTA. He served on the boards of the YMCA-YWCA Tampa and Hillsborough County Metropolitan and the Centre for Women and on the Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission. He was the founding Presidents of Hyde Park Preservation, Inc. and the Neighborhood Housing Services of Tampa, Inc.
Henry was a lifetime member of the Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, an honorary member of the Merrymakers Club of Tampa and served on the committee that brought Superbowl XXV to Tampa. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and as an acolyte trainer. Expressions of love in his memory may be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church or Parkinson’s Foundation. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
