

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Hy was valedictorian of his high school class, a testament to his sharp intellect and determination. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from New York University, laying the foundation for a remarkable career in broadcasting.
Hy's deep, distinctive voice became a familiar presence on the AM radio airways. After serving as a newscaster for WIP in Philadelphia, Hy spent the next 30 years as Director of News at WLBR in the Lebanon Valley of Pennsylvania. At WLBR, Hy wore many hats: news anchor; op-ed commentator; roving reporter; and the host of his own daily talk show.
His contributions to the field of broadcasting were recognized with numerous accolades, including the Excellence in Broadasting Award for Editorials from the PA Association of Broadcasters and the prestigious Benjamin Rush Award.
Hy served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Forces (AAF) during World War II, courageously participating in the Pacific Theater, including the battle of Iwo Jima.
Hy is preceded in death by his sister Bella Reifler and son David White. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rosemarie; children Erica Bouchard and Steven White; and two grandchildren Jakob and Jesse, who cherish his charm, wisdom, and storytelling.
Hyland was interred at Sarasota National Cemetery with military honors on December 7, 2020, a tribute to a life well lived and honorably served.
