She was born to the late Norman and Marie Berger in Morris, Illinois. Their family moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1948 where she became a classically trained concert pianist and performed her first recital at the age of 14. She later graduated from Florida State University with her Bachelors degree in Science.
It was during her time at Florida State University that Jane met her future husband and avid Florida Gator football fan, Paul. Despite their differences, they fortunately agreed to be set up on a blind date and attended the first ever Florida versus Florida State game. During this game it starting raining and being the avid fan he was, Paul refused to miss one minute of the game and Jane stayed by his side. Watching the big game the day after Thanksgiving was forever a family tradition.
After graduating, Jane moved to Atlanta and completed her internship at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Paul and Jane were married on September 9, 1960, spending 58 years together in Tampa raising their family.
Jane continued her career at Tampa General Hospital and retired after 30 plus years as a Manager of the Hematology Lab in 2005. Jane was very proud to have been associated with Tampa General and she loved her career and her colleagues.
After retirement, Jane continued her service to Tampa General as a volunteer at the hospital’s information desk every week until 2020.
Jane brought her family and friends together through her delicious cooking and created a warmth where everyone was always welcomed at our table.
She had a wonderful sense of humor and many memories of Jane are of her laughing and enjoying her family and friends.
Jane was an active member of the Sunset Park Garden Club, Chiselers, and Ladies of the Crown where she held multiple positions on their respective boards.
Paul and Jane loved to travel and were fortunate to be able to travel abroad before Paul’s diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease. Jane took care of her husband for many years at home until it was time for him to move to a nursing facility where she was with him every single day until his last day, March 24, 2018.
Jane is survived by her two daughters, Laurie Axt and Lynn Glynn, son- in- law, Patrick Glynn and grand-daughters, Ashley Glynn and Leah Glynn of Tampa, FL and her sister, Lois Coover of Clearwater, FL.
