DUNEDIN, Fla. — Joanne Northam Dunn, 90, of Mease Manor, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Lewis J. Dunn.
Joanne was born May 30, 1928 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Carleton and Bernice (Barker) Northam. She was a 1950 graduate of the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi.
Following their marriage in 1950, Joanne and Lewis moved to Storrs, Conn.; then Rockford, Naperville and Flossmoor, Ill., before moving to Dunedin in 1971.
While living in St. Petersburg in the late 1970s and early 80s, she was a member and treasurer of the Stuart Society of The Museum of Fine Arts and a member of the St. Petersburg Society of The Florida Orchestra.
In Dunedin, she was a member of the steering committee that formed the Auxiliary of Mease Hospital in 1973 and served as president in 1975-76. She volunteered for many years at Mease Hospital Dunedin and Morton Plant Mease Countryside.
At Mease Manor she was currently president of the Resident Council.
Joanne was a past president and treasurer of the Clearwater Alumni Club of Pi Beta Phi, a member and past treasurer of the Clearwater Chapter of the DAR, a member of Chapter EG of PEO and of the Dunedin Country Club. She was a member of Palm Harbor United Methodist Church and sang in the choir.
She loved classical music, reading, playing bridge, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
She leaves her children, Carleton Dunn (Jean) of Southbury, CT, and Diane Fyfe of Altoona, FL; her grandchildren, Norah Shimokawa (Kevin) of San Jose, CA, Peter Dunn of Oakland, CA, and Amy Dumoch (Adam) of Watertown, CT; two great-granddaughters, Nina Shimokawa and Kensington Dumoch; her sister, Mary Welge of Palos Heights, IL, and two nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Nancy Wilcox.
A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, September 29, at Palm Harbor United Methodist Church, 1551 Belcher Rd. A reception will follow. Burial was in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
