John Dimitri Krinos, 90, of Lutz, Florida passed away on Friday, 2 July, 2021. He was born in Athens, Greece, and immigrated to the US with his family in 1966. He returned to his beloved Greece as often as he was able. John is survived by wife Sue Krinos; daughter Ésme Towse; son Dimitri and his wife Melissa Krinos; son Emmanuel (Manoli) Krinos; and grandchildren Arianna and her husband Luke Quinn, Larissa, Sophia, Angelina, and John-Nicholas (Niko) Krinos. John is preceded in death by his son-in-law Peter Towse, his former wife Angeliki (Lila) Sordina Fiser, and his parents Dimitri and Alexandra Krinos.
John was a traveler with a penchant for learning and new experiences. After attending Athens College, John studied electrical engineering at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, where he graduated summa cum laude. Shortly afterwards, he received a post-graduate diploma and welcomed his daughter Ésme with his former wife May Galbraith. After military service in Greece and working for NATO in the Hague, Netherlands, where their sons Dimitri and Manoli were born, John and his then-wife Lila moved to Avon, Connecticut where he worked for United Technologies Corp and earned a M.S. degree in Computer Science. John became a naturalized U.S. citizen and moved to Vienna, Virginia where he worked for the MITRE corporation supporting US govt information systems. While establishing and managing a MITRE satellite office at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, he met and later married Sue Munroe Krinos, his wife of nearly thirty-six years, in 1985. Richness in work and life would lead him to move and travel before retiring in Lutz (near Tampa) in 1997. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, his entire family has benefited from his love, kindness and curiosity of mind. Those who have known John have fond memories of his unique intellect, wisdom and spirit, forged both in his home in the United States and the family’s ancestral home of Syros, Greece.
The family will host a visitation at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 2418 W. Swann Ave., Tampa at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, 6 July, 2021.
