92, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014. Born in 1922 in Savannah, GA. to John Joseph and Cecelia Altman Sullivan, John graduated from Benedictine Military School and then attended Armstrong Junior College on an athletic scholarship. After graduating in 1942, John joined the United States Army Air Force. He served as a pilot with the 573rd Bomb Squadron, 391st Bomb Group, flying B-26 aircraft on combat missions during the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe Campaigns. After the conclusion of WW II, John accepted an appointment to the Army Officers Reserve Corps, and returned to civilian life. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1947, but was recalled to active duty in May of 1951 during the Korean War. It was during this service that he met his wife, Elizabeth Clark, an Air Force nurse. They married in 1953.
During most of his career, John worked as a mortgage loan appraiser and in real estate sales. He spent most of his free time supporting the academic and athletic careers of his five sons as tutor, coach and #1 fan. John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elizabeth C. Sullivan; sons, Timon(Diana)Sullivan, Steve(Cindy) Sullivan, Kerry(Barbara) Sullivan, Brian(Pixie)Sullivan and Mark(Lisa)Sullivan; sisters, Mary S. Schmink and Joan T. Sullivan; grandchildren, Chris(Annette), David, Kevin, Ryan, Kayla, Caitlin, Heather, Kelly, Kierra, Daniel and Zack; and great-grandson, Luke.
A funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church at 10am on Friday July 11. Burial will take place afterwards at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in John’s name to Help Bring Hope to Haiti, Inc., 3816 W. Morrison Ave., Tampa 33629, or the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Visitation before Mass.
