Jonathan Miguel Martinez

Jonathan was born on April 22, 1982, in Carrollton, Texas, to his loving parents, Angel Wilfredo Martinez and Mari Elena Martinez. From an early age, it was clear that Jonathan possessed a rare combination of natural talent, intelligence, and a heart that loved deeply.

Growing up, Jonathan was an exceptional athlete who seemed to excel at every sport he tried. Baseball was one of his greatest passions, and he spent countless hours on the field, where his athletic ability and competitive spirit shined. Beyond sports, some of his happiest memories were made riding horses and spending time on the farm alongside his father—places where he felt most at home.

Jonathan admired his father tremendously and always wanted to be just like him. While he certainly inherited his father’s love of the outdoors and strong spirit, as Dad would lovingly say, he could never quite tame Jonathan. That independent streak, adventurous nature, and larger-than-life personality became part of what made him so unforgettable and so deeply loved.

Jonathan was remarkably bright and had an effortless ability to succeed academically. Learning came naturally to him, but what made him truly special wasn’t just his intelligence or athleticism—it was the way he loved. He cared deeply for the people in his life and gave his heart freely to those fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by his devoted parents, Angel Wilfredo Martinez and Mari Elena Martinez; his beloved children, Jonathan Jr., Alina, Izabella, Angel, and Sofia; his loving brothers, Marcus Martinez, Anthony Martinez, and Stephen Sumbera; and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

The Martinez family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered prayers, love, and support during this incredibly difficult time. Your kindness and compassion have meant more than words can express.

A celebration of Jonathan’s life will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33609. Family and friends are warmly invited to join us as we celebrate Jonathan’s life, honor his memory, and say our final farewell.

Refreshments will be served in our Speakeasy from 10:00 a.m until 12:00 p.m. Jonathan's service will begin at 12:00 p.m in our Palma Ceia Hall. He will be laid to rest at Myrtle Hill Memorial Gardens on the same day at 2:00 p.m.

Jonathan’s strength, laughter, kindness, and unwavering love for his family will remain in our hearts forever. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched.
