Juana Rivera

Juana Rivera entered the presence of the Lord on December 1st, 2024. She would have reached her 85th birthday on December 18th. She was the loving wife of the late Rev. Virgilio Rivera, a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Juana was born in Comerío, Puerto Rico, on December 18th, 1939. The eldest child of Octavio Rivera and Baldomera Torres, Juana's surviving siblings include Angel “Güiso,” Aida Iris, Luz, Aurea “Lala,” Tomasa, Alberto “Papo,” Miguel “Mickey,” David “Chavy,” José, and Migdalia “Sule.” She was predeceased by her younger sister Andrea in 2020.

As the oldest child, Juana dedicated herself to care for most of her siblings early in life. Juana lived in Puerto Rico until 1967 when she and Virgilio moved to Holyoke, MA. Shortly after, in 1968, the couple moved to Lowell, MA, where they lived until moving to Tampa, FL, in 2004.

Juana was immensely dedicated to her large family and was often found cooking and baking. Everyone loved her food! Only her love for the Lord was above her dedication to others. As a minister’s wife, she helped minister to people in various locations during the time of the couple’s ministry of 50+ years.

Juana and Virgilio married on July 16th, 1957. They had a total of 10 children. Juana was predeceased by twins Ramón and Rosa (1966) and her eldest child, Evelyn, in 2020. Surviving children include Aida L., Carmen L., Virgilio Jr., Migna I., Aurea E., Maridsa, and Jimmy.

Blessed to have seen several generations, Juana was grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Always joyful, Juana made many friends over the years and loved people unconditionally. Recently, Juana discovered a love for pencil coloring and spending time at a center for seniors.

To honor Juana’s request, we ask that visitors consider dressing in red (top), white (top), and black (bottom). Consistent with her humble nature, if you wish to offer flowers, please consider simple bouquets rather than large arrangements.

Juana Rivera entró en la presencia del Señor el 1 de diciembre de 2024. Hubiera cumplido 85 años el 18 de diciembre. Fue la amada esposa del difunto reverendo Virgilio Rivera, un veterano del ejército de los Estados Unidos.

Juana nació en Comerío, Puerto Rico, el 18 de diciembre de 1939. La hija mayor de Octavio Rivera y Baldomera Torres, a Juana le sobreviven sus hermanos/as Ángel “Güiso”, Aida Iris, Luz, Aurea “Lala”, Tomasa, Alberto “Papo”, Miguel “Mickey”, David “Chavy”, José y Migdalia “Sule”. Su hermana menor Andrea falleció en 2020.

Como hija mayor, Juana se dedicó a cuidar a la mayoría de sus hermanos desde muy temprana edad. Juana vivió en Puerto Rico hasta 1967, cuando ella y Virgilio se mudaron a Holyoke, MA. Poco después, en 1968, la pareja se mudó a Lowell, MA, donde vivieron hasta mudarse a Tampa, FL, en 2004.

Juana estaba inmensamente dedicada a su numerosa familia y a menudo se encontraba cocinando y horneando. ¡A todos les encantaba su comida! Solo su amor por el Señor estaba por encima de su dedicación a los demás. Como esposa de un ministro, ayudó a ministrar a personas en varios lugares durante el tiempo del ministerio de la pareja de más de 50 años.

Juana y Virgilio se casaron el 16 de julio de 1957. Tuvieron un total de 10 hijos. Juana fue precedida en la muerte por los gemelos Ramón y Rosa (1966) y por su hija mayor, Evelyn, en 2020. Los hijos sobrevivientes son Aida L., Carmen L., Virgilio Jr., Migna I., Aurea E., Maridsa y Jimmy.

Bendecida por haber visto varias generaciones, Juana fue abuela, bisabuela y tatarabuela.

Siempre alegre, Juana hizo muchos amigos a lo largo de los años y amó a la gente incondicionalmente. Recientemente, Juana descubrió su amor por colorear con lápices y pasar tiempo en un centro para mayores de edad.

Para honrar el pedido de Juana, pedimos que los visitantes consideren vestirse de rojo (arriba), blanco (arriba) y negro (abajo). En consonancia con su naturaleza humilde, si desea ofrecer flores, considere ramos sencillos en lugar de arreglos grandes.
