Judith (Judy) Anne Hare Edwards, 76, of Tampa Florida, took her last breath on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 in Tampa Florida. She has gone to join her beloved dog Bear and many others who passed before her.
Judy was born on Halloween in San Antonio, Texas to Marjorie Louise House and Donald (Don) Louis Hare and was the oldest of three with her two younger brothers Ronnie and Robbie. She went to school at Jefferson High School there.
On February 10, 1973 in Atlanta, Georgia, she married Forrest Edwards (Eddie), her husband of over 30 years. Together they had her only child, Katy, who they lovingly called Mug. Judy didn’t think she was going to be able to have children at all so Katy was the absolute love and joy of her life. They lived together in Horseshoe Bend in Atlanta until 1992 when they moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
When not driving Mug and her friends to swim or tennis practices, meets and games, Judy was an avid tennis player herself. She could often be found with her “tennis party girls” and closest friends Pat Schoenheiter, Peggy Burke and Ann Grummert. She also volunteered for everything she possibly could. She was a founding member of the Chattahoochee Cotillion Club, something she was always very proud of and where Katy would eventually become a debutante as well.
In Ponte Vedra Beach, she joined Christ Church, where she was a member for years. She also got involved in real estate, first by building and selling her family homes and then eventually becoming a real estate agent.
Judy loved to read, was an incredible writer and always had the right thing to say at the right time. She was the mom and friend who everyone went to for advice. She had a natural style and grace that was hard to match. Her generosity, witty sarcasm and infectious smile are things that people will always remember her for.
Judy was a loving Godmother to Hawk Younkins and Paige Younkins, the children Beverly and Daniel Younkins. Beverly and Judy were best friends for 52 years and had a friendship a lot of people aren’t lucky enough to have in their lives.
Judy is preceded in death by her mother Marjorie, father Don and brother Robert (Robbie) Charles Hare.
Judy is survived by daughter Katy Edwards of Tampa, Florida; brother Ronald Glenn Hare (Twyla) of The Woodlands, Texas; nieces Kelly Christoph (Paul), Lisa Sparks (Jimmy), Lauren Vermillion (Beau), Rachel Walsh (Jacob); nephew Cameron Hare; and 6 great nieces & nephews.
A celebration of Judy’s life will be planned later this year.
Judy loved all animals (well most), especially her chow chow Bear and her “grandpuppies” Harley, Jax and Zoe, so memorials may be given in her honor to Noah’s Ark Rescue (https://www.noahs-arks.net/donations/all) or the ASPCA (https://www.aspca.org/).
