Karen was born In Lynn, MA to Robert and Kay Immonen on Feb 3, 1943. She went to school at Quincy High School and then Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston. She graduated with her BS degree from University of South Florida. Karen married John Hangartner on August 23,1975 in Clearwater, FL. Karen and John have two children, Lori and John II, to whom Karen was fully devoted during their upbringing. Prior to 1975 Karen was the Personnel Director of A.C. Nielsen’s Dunedin facility (T.V. ratings) where she met her husband to be. She owned/co-owned an upscale women’s clothing consignment operation up until 2021. Karen was very involved with many community activities, including: the Tampa Symphony Orchestra Guild, originating the first Decorator Home Showcase major fund raiser; 20-year volunteer of the Straz Center for the Performing Arts: and a reading teacher in the County’s Adult Reading Program. As of recent, as a co-founder of the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour’s Portico Ministries she spent many hours feeding and clothing the local homeless folks. Karen and John loved domestic and international travel. She enjoyed tennis (even officiating some sanctioned matches), golf, and boating. Karen enjoyed listening and dancing to all types of music. She was avid reader of romance and mystery novels. She played all types of games, including bridge, enjoying and cherishing her many friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Kay, and her younger brother, Ray Immonen.
Karen is survived by her husband, John and their two children, Lori and John Hangartner plus her sister, Linda Erickson (Glenn) of Melbourne Beach, FL and sister-in-law Ruth Hangartner of Oviedo, FL and niece and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 4:30pm August 20,2022 at Lutheran Church of Our Saviour with Rev. Jose-Luis La Torre-Cuadros of Lutheran Church of Our Saviour officiating. A Celebration Dinner will follow at the Church around 5:30pm.
