Fred proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for more than twenty years, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. During his military career, he served in the United States and abroad and worked extensively in ground radio communications. His years of service were recognized through numerous military decorations and commendations. Following his military career, Fred continued his education at Hillsborough Community College, and then at the University of South Florida where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
Fred remained connected to the veteran community throughout his life and was a member of American Legion Post 138 for 51 years.
A man of many interests and talents, Fred had an exceptional aptitude for technology and enjoyed building his own computers. He was also an accomplished pit master and a true barbecue enthusiast, known for his knowledge and skill in the craft, and a firearm enthusiast. Fred was a longtime, loyal Republican.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Charles Badger and Althea Gladys Kilburn.
He is survived by his daughter, Daphne Loren Hawkes; son, Brock Lyle Badger; grandchildren, Steven James Tucker, Adam Warren Hawkes, and Jessica Loren Hawkes Becker; and great grandchildren, Cadence Loren Tucker, Evan James Tucker, Emerson Seville Hawkes, and Levi Warren Hawkes.
Fred will be laid to rest with military honors at Florida National Cemetery. The committal service will take place at 1:30 p.m. Guests attending the service are respectfully asked to arrive no later than 1:00 p.m.
