
An Army Veteran of World War II, Leon fought with the 11th Armored Division in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Leon and Doris E. Green were wed in 1943, and they were married nearly 75 years. One of seven children, Leon spent the first fifty years of his life in Wilmington Delaware, where he worked primary in the trucking and automotive industries. He semi retired in 1973 to New Port Richey, Florida and then moved to Tampa in 2012.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Szymanski, his children, daughter Sharon Krewson, son Lee Szymanski, grandson Stephen (Ronda) Parag, “second daughter” Leigh (Ken) Skeens a total of five grand children, seven great grand children and two great great grand children. He is also survived by brother Edward (Sue) Szymanski, sister Catherine Cotton.
Leon Szymanski will be cremated and buried in a private ceremony at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tampa VA Hospice.
