Lewis Sonny Rickett Jr.

Known as Sonny to his friends and family, and affectionately as Pop to his grandchildren, Lewis was a steady, humble, and deeply caring man whose life was defined by devotion to family, generosity, and quiet integrity.

He shared many years of marriage with his wife, Barbara, remaining faithfully by her side through decades of disability. His devotion to her reflected the constancy with which he approached the people he loved. He also gave his family the lasting gift of a mountain home in northeast Georgia, a place that became a setting for memories, gatherings, and time together across generations.

One of Sonny’s most remarkable qualities was his ability to listen. When someone spoke with him, he gave that person his full attention and took a genuine interest in what they had to say. It was a simple quality, but a rare one, and it earned him the affection and respect of neighbors, colleagues, and members of his community.

Sonny was also generous in practical ways—quietly helping those around him pursue their ambitions and build their lives. His encouragement and support helped one of his grandsons fulfill the dream of becoming a pilot, one of many examples of the lasting influence he had on his family.

Sonny was fond of old cars and owned a 1946 Ford for many years. He also remained humorous and witty until the very end.

To his grandchildren, he will always be Pop.
