Linda Lou Montague

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Shirley Ann Thompson Maynard and two brothers Goebel and Clarence Newsom.

Linda is survived by her husband Halbert, sisters Loretta Roberts and Mona Wright, brother Leroy Newsom, and son Mark (Carrie). She is also survived by her three grandchildren Matthew Montague (Michelle), Amanda Montague, Michael Montague and her three great-grandchildren Madelyn Montague, McKenna Montague and Preston Graddy-Montague and many nieces and nephews.

Linda married the love of her life on May 16, 1960 in Sylvester, Georgia. They lived in Mobile and Tuscaloosa, Alabama before moving to Tampa, Florida in 1969. She worked as a buyer for Lawton Jewelers for many years and then as a sales associate at Maas Brothers Fine Jewelry until retirement.

Linda played a role in starting up Skyway Little League in Town and Country, where she was Mark’s #1 fan. She could always be heard cheering him on in the stands, shouting “Come on baby”! Linda was a strong Christian woman who was an active member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where she loved singing in the choir every Sunday.

Linda never met a stranger and always made everyone feel welcome. She was always gracious to those around her. She loved to bake and cook for others, not always with a recipe. Her Blueberry Torte was the favorite with her grandkids and anyone else who was lucky enough to try it. Linda loved to spoil her grandkids but most of all she loved spending time with them at any given opportunity. She always had a toy for them when they got together, even if it wasn’t their birthday. One of her greatest joys was being able to hold and laugh with her great-grandchildren. They will cherish their memories for a lifetime.

Visitation will be held at Blount Funeral Home, 6802 Silvermill Drive, Tampa, Florida on March 7, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

The family will have a private service at Bay Pines VA Cemetery at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Metropolitan Ministries in Tampa, Florida in Linda’s name.
