He is survived by his wife, Shirley Gooding Cueto, daughters Cynthia Rodriguez and Grace Lopez. He is preceded in death by his son, Robert Louis Cueto and sister Elba DeForest. Louis adored his Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren tremendously. Grandson Eugene Louis Rodriguez (Candice) Demi, Sevi and Scottie; Granddaughters Christina Rodriguez and Gina Azzarelli (Austin) Emma and Eli. Grandson Christian Lopez (Christina) Olivia and Toby; and grandson Aaron Lopez.
Louis was born, May 16, 1930 to Costantino and Graciela Cueto. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School on June14, 1949. He joined the Navy shortly afterwards and served during the Korean War on the USS Essex. He Honorably discharged in in July of 1954. He returned home to Tampa and began his career in The City of Tampa Police Department. He would retire, after 20 years of service, in March of 1976.
Louis was a dedicated family man. He and Shirley were married for 69 years. He was always there to offer a helping hand, supporting his children and their businesses. He was so proud of Olivia and loved listening to her play her violin. Louis enjoyed life and always had something to do. As a young man he enjoyed weekends at the Causeway in the little casitas with family and friends. He always had a side job. Rooting and selling azaleas was his favorite. After his retirement he would start his own business, Louis Cueto Wholesale. My brother would eventually join him. They worked together for 40 years selling Bar and Restaurant supplies from Clearwater Beach to Treasure Island. Many of their customers became long-time friends. When Louis retired, again, Robert would take over the business and Lou would still go out and ride the route with him and enjoy lunch with old friends.
As we celebrate Louis’s life the family would like to celebrate Robert’s life as well. They shared a love of life, fishing and cars. A Celebration of Life visitation for both will be held from 4:00pm - 6:30pm on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Blount and Curry Life Event Center, 605 S. MacDill Ave, Tampa, FL 33609. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Our family was blessed with several very special caregivers in Louis’s final years. Keicia, Karen and especially Monica will always hold a special place in our hearts. Thank you to the many dedicated Doctors, Nurses and Support Staff from St Joseph’s Hospital North, St Joseph’s Hospital Main, Home Instead, and Melech Hospice House Burgandy Team who helped us tremendously these past two months.
