Luis and his family have been our neighbors for many, many years. Luis had a smile that would light up any room and anyone who was lucky enough to be with him. He was a generous and humble friend. His generosity was extended to our community, working tirelessly for Wheels of Success, which provided for those in need. He will be sorely missed by all of us lucky enough to have known him. We extend our sincerest sympathy to Alicia, his beautiful children, and grandchildren. Love, Merlin & Weezie 

The neighborhood will not be the same without Mr. de la Torre.  Growing up with the family was full of baseball/softball in the Sierra Circle park, pool days in the summer, and dinners with the family of the Mom/Dad who caved first.  He always had a smile on his face and the best car around -- I remember riding in the back of that Corvette and still wonder how the heck I fit.   My thoughts and prayers are with the rest of the de la Torre family -- he will truly be missed.

 Beginning in January 1970, New Orleans, LA, continuing to August 30, 2018, Linda Nelson and I  have been blessed by our unwavering friendship with Luis A. de la Torre.  Along with his devoted and loving wife Alicia, our families shared the ups and downs of life's challenges together - always together.   Luis gave everything he possessed to those he loved, often placing our happiness above his own welfare.  Unselfishness and unconditional love was his gift, offered freely with no expectation of personal gain.  

There is very little I don't know about Luis A. de la Torre - and he me.  Those priceless secrets are now at rest in the spirit world, shared between two buddies who loved one another.   Approaching 80 years young, I will be with Luis soon enough.  Till then, I'll smile - no laugh out loud, at the great times we shared as close friends.  Ironically, in 1971, Luis told me he didn't believe in true friendship.  By his own admission, he was wrong, evidenced by the many good friends he shared the joy of life with - until August 30, 2018.   Luis impacted many lives and lives on forever in our memories as a unique, great guy.

Luis was a wonderful part of my life!  I've been blessed to be friends with his daughter, Alicia, for longer than I'd like to admit!  Being in Luis' company was always spirited and I enjoyed any opportunity to hear him tell a story- whether it be about Cuba, his beloved children and grandchildren, or just a funny anecdote about life.  I can't recall any time around Luis where I didn't laugh- a lot! I loved (and still love) being in his home, specifically out by the pool.  He was always so welcoming and would almost prefer we congregate at his home rather than be out and about, especially when we were teens and even as young adults.  He had a generous heart and made "giving back" a priority.  Yet, he was so humble and would much rather celebrate the accomplishments of others than his own.  I loved him and respected him as I do my own father and I will miss him dearly.

Luis was greeted in Heaven by his parents, Elias P. de la Torre, Sr., and Esther de la Torre; and his son Alexis Anthony de la Torre.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Alicia de la Torre; his beloved children, Luis Alberto de la Torre, Jr. (Aadonia) and Alicia Liza de la Torre (Charlie Salyer); his cherished grandchildren, Grace Alexis de la Torre and Luis Alberto de la Torre, III; and his only brother, Elias P. de la Torre, Jr.
