Luis Medel, 94, of Tampa, passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 10th, 2021. He was born in Havana, Cuba in 1926. He is survived by Martha Medel, his loving wife of 66 years and many adoring nieces, nephews and family members. Luis was very firm in his faith and was an active member of St Andrews Episcopal Church where he continued to receive regular visits from Father Stadel after he could no longer physically attend church services. He was devoted to his family, was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Luis attended the University of Havana and married the love of his life in 1954. He came to Tampa as a refugee in the early 1960’s, having lost everything in Communist Cuba. He worked hard to establish a new life and career and worked as an accountant for Tampa General until he retired. Luis always amazed his family and friends with his knowledge and ability to converse on any and every topic and was a “walking encyclopedia”. He was fascinating to talk to as his memory was incredible and he could recall and share the most minute details and facts about any subject. Prior to his death he was visited by family from near and far who came from California, Texas, Colorado, North Carolina, West Virginia and Florida to express their love and say their goodbyes to this very special uncle who was so dearly loved. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 25th at 12:00 PM, Blount & Curry - 605 S MacDill Avenue, Tampa, FL 33629 officiated by The Reverend Canon Jerold R. Stadel, followed by burial at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Tampa, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to St Andrews Episcopal Church, 509 E Twiggs Avenue, FL 33602.
