Hevia, Margaret Rodriguez, 87, a lifelong resident of Tampa, Florida, passed away at her home on Friday January 20, 2012. Our loving mother was born March 14, 1924 to Antonio and Francesca Rodriquez in Tampa. She is survived by her children Margaret Akins Plowman and Robert Akins, grandchildren Benjamin Plowman, Brigette Cromwell and her husband Kenneth, great-grandchildren Caroline and Fletcher Cromwell, sister Stella Lounders, nieces Frances Tillman, Yara Lounders, Stella Delgado, Sabrina Lounders, and Toni O’Steen, nephews Richard, Eugene, Jerry, and Kenny Lounders. She was preceded in death by her grandson Miles Plowman, Brother Tony Rodriguez, and husband Guy Hevia. Margaret graduated from Hillsborough High School and went on to earn her cosmetology degree. Throughout her long career she owned several beauty salons, including the Palace Styling Salon on Twiggs in Tampa. For over 50 years she provided haircuts to a Tampa clientele consisting of judges, attorneys, and city mayors and on one rare occasion she trimmed the shaggy mop of rock star Mick Jagger. Her hard work proved to be a commendable business skill. Margaret was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, and she will be deeply missed across all of the generations her life has touched. A memorial gathering will take place at Gonzalez Funeral Home from 3 to 5PM with services beginning at 5PM on Saturday January 28, 2012.
