Marguerite (Margie) Luke Herrington (aka Marguerite Vinson) passed away on Thursday the 6th of December in the year of our Lord 2018 at the age of 93 at her home in Hernando Beach, Florida. She was born in Berrien County, Georgia in 1925. She moved to Tampa in 1940 and Hernando Beach in 1981. Marguerite graduated from Plant High School and attended Business school at the University of Tampa. Margie worked for Western Union during WWII and joined the sisterhood of Kappa Delta Phi sorority in 1944, and spent the next 65 years promoting civic service and charity throughout Tampa Bay. She and her husband Clarence were members of the Tampa Cruis-A-Cade club and past Commodores, (their boat number was T79) spending many years boating and supporting the community. She was a member of a United Methodist Church in Spring Hill, Florida and a founding member of the Hernando Beach Yacht Club.
Margie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who dedicated her time and talents caring for her family. She was predeceased by her two husbands Clarence Vinson of Tampa, John Herrington of Pittsburgh and a great-grandson Oliver Vinson Ortiz.
Marguerite is survived by two sons and their wives, Tom and Gail Vinson, John and Rosa Vinson of Tampa; five grandsons and their wives, John and Mary Vinson of Tampa, Christopher Vinson and Tania Ortiz of Los Gatos, CA; Tyson and Dani Vinson of Denver, CO; Matt Vinson of Olympia, WA; Raymond and Alyssa Vinson of Bradenton, FL great-grandchildren Kaitlin, Jack, and Annabelle Vinson, her two sisters Mary Bates of Sun City, FL. and Libby LaBelle of Tampa; three step-sons and their wives, Doug and Cheryl Herrington of Noblesville, IN; Tom and Faith Herrington of Hiram, OH; David and Jill Herrington of Pittsburgh, PA; and numerous Herrington step-grandchildren and great-step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 from 10am to 11am with a service beginning at 11am and a reception to follow at Blount and Curry Funeral Home-MacDill Chapel, 605 MacDill Ave. Tampa, FL. 33609. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Memorial Park, 4202 E. Lake Ave. Tampa, FL. 33610 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
