Maria Eugenia Aguado Aguero (68) passed on May 17 2020 in Hospice Care of Tampa General Hospital, in Tampa, Florida.

Maria was born in Camaguey, Cuba on September 11th 1952. She was the fourth out of seven siblings. Her mother was Mercedes Aguero Hernandez, and her father Santiago Aguado Gonzalez.

After graduating High School, she completed her professional education at the Habana National Art School. She spent the earlier years of her career teaching children in the Palace of Pioneers of Camaguey, a vocational center dedicated to promote art and universal culture to Elementary and Middle School students.

She dedicated the last 20 years of her career lecturing Plastic Art at the University of Medical Science Carlos J. Finlay of Camaguey, Cuba until she decided to migrate to the United States. During that period in Cuba, she participated in developing the local culture, and was an active member of the House of Culture of Camaguey, a local institution dedicated to promote Cuban culture. She organized and participated in multiple events promoting manual arts and plastic arts.

Maria converted to Christianity as an adult and was true believer until her last breath. She was an active member of the Church in Cuba; Syracuse, New York; and finally member of the Iglesia Misionera de Tampa, Florida.

She married Herminio Escalona and had two children, Ivan Escalona Aguado and Eric Escalona Aguado. She later divorced him after approximately 15 years of marriage and remained divorced for several years. She then married Luis Gonzalez Bruno in Syracuse NewYork.

Maria was loved by her family, she will be remembered for her spontaneous laughter, enjoying her family and family’ jokes.

Maria was a dedicated mom, nothing could stop her from protecting her family, caring for them was her mission in life. No obstacle was too small for her to overcome in this regards. She was survived by her sons Ivan and Eric and two grandchildren. Also she was survived by her siblings Mercedes, Santiago, Aurora, Ramiro, Ramona and David.

Maria loved animals specially cats, Latte (her cat) was Maria’s companion for 15 years.

We would like to thank Luis Gonzalez Bruno (her surviving spouse) who loved her so much and never left her alone and his family for accepting Maria as another family member without hesitation.

The Aguado’s family appreciates all Maria’s friends who helped her, especially after she came to live to the United States.

She was gifted in making friends, especially those that last forever. She certainly enjoyed the friendship of Yoly and Iran and their family, who were at her side since she came to live to the United States in 2003 until her last day.

We would like to recognize Rev. David Zamora and his wife Raquel for the constant spiritual support and prayers, the logistic and the help provided to Maria during her difficult times.

Also, we would like to thank to all of the nameless brother-in-faith who helped her and kept her in their prayers.

Carmencita
