COLADO, Mary Electra Xeroteres, 91, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2018. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Hector B. Colado; daughters Dyann “Rocky” Valdez (Happy), Sandy Colado (Michael), and Michelle Pliego; grandson Michael A. Valdez, III.; granddaughters Olivia, Carmen, and Maggie Pliego; stepdaughters Yvonne Garren (Danny) and Cynthia Fernandez (Ivan); stepgrandchildren Robbie Gordon, Gabriel and Alex Garren; and her devoted and ever vigil dog, Daisy.
Born in Nashua, New Hampshire to Greek immigrant parents, then moving to Tampa her early thirties, she became a successful business woman during a time that women were not easily accepted in the work field. Our mother had a dream which she made a reality by opening the first ever “You Wash, We Iron” store. The first location was located in South Tampa and later branched out to other locations. She was also an accomplished seamstress. She was independent and strong, working long, hard hours relentlessly.
Her life was full of love and laughter with a wonderful set of family values which she successfully instilled in her daughters and grandchildren. She was proud of her Greek heritage and her family, and she made sure that her countless recipes for Greek pastries and foods were passed down to her girls. Our Mother was the matriarch of our family. She never tired of giving advice, always there with an open heart full of love and compassion. She never met a stranger and enjoyed being around people of all ages. She was always smiling and laughing, and people loved being around her. She touched many hearts during her 91 years here on earth, and she will be missed tremendously by all who knew her. Rest in peace, Mama. Your memory will be eternal in our hearts. We love you.
Funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday, January 22, 11:00 am, at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 2418 W Swann Ave, Tampa, FL 33609. Burial to follow immediately at Garden of Memories. Funeral arrangements under the care of Gonzalez Funeral Home ph. 813-931-1833.
