At the age of 11, not only did she work in the local diner she also helped train horses (Guidings). In high school, she competed in equestrian competitions traveling throughout Nebraska and Colorado to compete.
Mildred didn't enjoy the cold weather in Nebraska. After graduating high school, she decided to move, first to Arizona and then to Florida. She lived in Lakeland for a short while then moved to Tampa, where she made her home for the remainder of her life.
Mildred worked at the University Club in downtown Tampa for over 30 years.
After retiring from the University Club, Mildred began volunteering at Memorial Hospital (now HCA Health) after over 20 years. This quickly became her favorite work. Mildred was extremely proud of her work at the hospital, helping many people during those years of service. Mildred also volunteered at the Food Bank through her church.
