Born August 1st, 1928 and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Pat is preceded in death by her dear mother, Viola Zimmer and Father, Lawrence Zimmer. Pat was the loving mother of Kathleen O’Neill and Christine (Rick) Nelson (nee Messina); and beloved grandmother to Eryn Woody, Sam Nelson and Grace Nelson.
Early in life, Pat ventured to California to work for Western Union post WWII. After a few years, she settled back home in St. Louis and spent most of her career in the inland river transportation industry, working for Valley Barge Line and Nilo Barge Line. Pat worked her way up from line secretary to executive secretary to sales, and thrived in an industry that brought her much joy and many lifelong friends. After retiring from the barge lines, she spent several years in hospital administration, working for Barnes-Jewish Hospital. In 2004 Pat relocated to Tampa, Florida to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Pat loved watching them participate in their sport and scholastic activities. She was also an avid Silver Sneakers member at the local YMCA, where she developed good friends as well.
Pat was a wonderful piano player and singer. At 18 she actually made a recording on album, and entertained at many work gatherings and Christmas parties. Pat was also passionate about sports, particularly hockey. For many years you could find her cheering on The St. Louis Blues at the Arena. She also enjoyed watching tennis and football. But mostly she enjoyed visiting with family and friends. If life were measured in the number of friends vs. the number of years, Pat was rich indeed! A memorial service will be held in St. Louis on Wednesday, Dec 2nd, 2020. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. – noon at Hutchens Funeral Center at 675 Graham Rd. Florissant, MO 63031. A funeral mass will be held in the chapel at noon. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Lifepath Hospice, 3010 W. Azeele St. Tampa, FL 33609. https://lifepathhospice.chaptershealth.org.
