

Paulina Cornelia Ruigrok Van Leeuwen of Tampa, passed away January 25, 2022. Born September 16, 1929 in De Zilk, The Netherlands, to Carolus and Wilhelmina Ruigrok, in the heart of the tulip growing region. Her father owned the family tulip growing and exporting business in which she and her brothers and sisters worked. This business would grow into one of the larger international exporters of the region. In 1959, she married her beloved husband Chris and they immigrated to America to begin their businesses in dairy, beef cattle, and citrus groves, beginning in California then Arizona and finally residing in Florida. They raised 4 children with the Dutch heritage and values brought from their homeland. She was a founding member, VP and ambassador for The Holland Club of Tampa Bay, hosting Dutch visitors at many events. One of Paula’s favorite past times throughout her life was planning and traveling with family and friends. She was forever a gracious and welcoming lady, frequently hosting friends and family for afternoon coffee with Dutch cookies.
Paula’s children and grandchildren feel very fortunate to have her as their beloved “Oma” as she taught so many valuable, treasured lessons and faith in God every day. Paula and Chris were longtime and dedicated members of St. Paul Catholic Church in Carrollwood and strong supporters of Catholic schools in Tampa.
Paula is predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Chris. She is survived by her loving children Wilma, Arlene (Fred) Power, Pauline (Jeff) Smith, Chris, and her loving grandchildren Shelby, Nicole, Lindsay, Erik, and Eva, who are forever grateful for their Oma and Opa and will forever keep them in their hearts. Paula is predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Wilhelm, Simon, Jan, Antoon, Cor, Sr. Rina, and Annie and survived by many Ruigrok and Van Leeuwen family members residing across the world.
Mass will be conducted at St. Paul Catholic Church, Tampa. Burial at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Tampa.
