Rafael Socarrás

Rafael Socarrás was born in Buenaventura, in Holguin, Cuba to Juan Francisco Socarrás Perez and Rosa Lidia De La Tejera on April 8, 1933. He married Eugenia Avelina Socarras on December 21, 1957 in Santiago de Cuba.

He studied business administration and vocational and technical trades. Rafael was an entrepreneur influenced by his father’s business background. As a young man, he was introduced to the tinsmith business and then later he worked as a business owner and manager of a family-owned furniture business named CASA SOCARRÁS originally started by his father. After immigrating to the United States, he worked hard to start again and founded a combination business of real estate, and mini-supermarkets. He managed this business for a number of years before expanding into a beverage distribution business.

He was a member of the mason fraternal organization which influenced his social and moral values.

Rafael was a leader. He was loved by everyone who came to know him and he helped many people during difficult times regardless of their economic situation. He was an avid dominoes player, a great dancer and the life of everyone’s party. During the 80’s Cuban immigration crisis, he personally provided shelter to many immigrants both friends and family giving them a chance for a healthy prosperous life. He was an even-keeled person and one to never complain. He was tireless in the amount of love and help he gave to people.

Rafael is survived by his wife, Eugenia Avelina Socarrás and all his children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday April 30, 2023 at Gonzalez Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Gonzalez Funeral Home.

Rafael Socarrás nació en Buenaventura, en Holguín, Cuba de Juan Francisco Socarrás Pérez y Rosa Lidia De La Tejera el 8 de abril de 1933. Contrajo matrimonio con Eugenia Avelina Socarras el 21 de diciembre de 1957 en Santiago de Cuba.

Cuando era joven, conoció el negocio de la hojalatería y luego trabajó como propietario y gerente de una empresa familiar de muebles llamada CASA SOCARRÁS, originalmente iniciada por su padre. Después de emigrar a los Estados Unidos, trabajó duro para comenzar de nuevo y fundó un negocio combinado de bienes raíces y mini-supermercados. Dirigió este negocio durante varios años antes de expandirse a un negocio de distribución de bebidas.

Fue miembro de la organización fraternal mason que influyó en sus valores sociales y morales.

Rafael era un líder. Fue querido por todos los que llegaron a conocerlo y ayudó a muchas personas en momentos difíciles, independientemente de su situación económica. Era un ávido jugador de dominó, un gran bailarín y el alma de la fiesta de todos. Durante la crisis de inmigración cubana de los años 80, él personalmente brindó refugio a muchos inmigrantes, tanto amigos como familiares, dándoles la oportunidad de una vida próspera y saludable. Era una persona ecuánime y alguien que nunca se quejaba. Era incansable en la cantidad de amor y ayuda que brindaba a las personas.

A Rafael le sobreviven su esposa, Eugenia Avelina Socarrás y todos sus hijos y nietos.

Los servicios fúnebres se llevarán a cabo a las 10:30 a. m. el domingo 30 de abril de 2023 en González Funeral Home. El entierro seguirá en Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. Los arreglos son por Gonzalez Funeral Home.
