Born on June 22, 1956 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to James (Ted) E. Magill and Rita A. Magill, Richard is survived by his mother, his brother, Jim, and his sisters, Marita Eddy and Megan Wallace. He grew up in Pennsylvania and attended St. Thomas More elementary school and Bethel Park High School.
After graduating from high school, Richard joined the Navy. Later in his life, he served as an air traffic controller in Louisiana, Texas and Hawaii. After his retirement he lived for many years in Honolulu, Hawaii, before moving to Florida in 2019 to be closer to his stateside friends and family, especially his mother.
Rich was truly a one-in-a-million character and left an indelible impression on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. He was often known as the “King of Fun,” always ready to organize a big family reunion, a trip to the track or Vegas, or a backyard get-together with friends. Super-smart, even as a kid he used his sharp, analytical brain to dominate at card games and board games like chess, Stratego & Risk. He’d later used those mental gifts in his career as an air traffic controller.
He had been in poor health for the last couple of years, which has been a source of great concern to all who loved him. Yet neither his family nor his closest friends realized how serious his condition was and all hoped he would regain his health and once again be the same lively Rich that everybody loved.
Now, he’s guiding the angels in for a landing on the heavenly clouds. Rest in Peace.
