Robert Raymond Bossert, age 54, passed away on March 3, 2026. Born in New York and raised in Illinois, Bob spent much of his life in Tampa, Florida. He will be lovingly remembered by family and friends simply as Bob — a devoted and warm presence whose life was marked by laughter and a deep love for family and the things that brought joy to those around him.
Bob was born in Amityville, Long Island, New York, to Ron and Irene Bossert in September 1971. His childhood was filled with adventure. He enjoyed annual summer trips to New York with his family, camping trips with his Indian Guides and Boy Scout troops (becoming an Eagle Scout in 1989), and often spoke of a memorable High Adventure sailing trip with his troop in the Florida Keys. He also spoke fondly of a European history trip during high school, where he visited historic sites in Germany and Russia. Bob graduated from Naperville Central High School in Illinois and later earned his bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University. In 1993, he had a magical experience participating in the Walt Disney World College Program, and he eventually relocated to Florida permanently in 1996.
Bob had a deep love for technology, and his career in the IT field allowed him to turn that passion into a fulfilling profession.
On February 15, 2015, Bob married the love of his life, Tara, at a beautiful beachside wedding in Key West, Florida. Throughout their relationship, they loved simply being together — whether cruising, traveling with family and friends, strolls around the EPCOT World Showcase taking in the Food & Wine Festival, or enjoying evenings filled with Star Wars movies and laughter. His motto as a partner quickly became, “Happy wife, happy life.”
In July of 2019, Bob and Tara welcomed their biggest adventure yet — their son, Sawyer. It was fitting that this Star Wars fan’s child was born on Han Solo’s birthday (Harrison Ford). Bob shared his love of adventure, Disney magic, great BBQ, and all things Jedi with Sawyer in countless ways, including their special “Boys’ Nights Out” together. “Bossert & Son’s BBQ,” came into creation when Bob taught Sawyer how to how to use the grill to make some of their favorite foods. Their family created wonderful memories visiting Orlando and escaping the Empire while riding Rise of the Resistance.
Among their most treasured experiences were a special trip to Alaska, where Bob took Sawyer dog sledding; an adventure to Atlanta to see the whale sharks at the Georgia Aquarium and climb Stone Mountain; and time spent cheering on the home team together during Tampa Bay Buccaneers games. In November 2025, Bob helped create a particularly special memory when Sawyer ran onto the field at a Buccaneers home game to retrieve the tee.
Disney, Star Wars, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were enduring passions in Bob’s life, and he delighted in sharing them with the people he loved.
Bob is survived by his loving parents, Ron and Irene Bossert; his devoted wife, Tara Bossert; his cherished son, Sawyer Bossert; and his brother, Bill Bossert. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will continue to honor his memory and carry his love with them always.
Family will be receiving guests at Blount & Curry Funeral Home – Oldsmar West Chapel, 6802 Silvermill Drive, Tampa, Florida 33635, on March 7, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 p.m.
Guests are invited to help celebrate Bob’s life by wearing their favorite Star Wars, Disney, or Buccaneers attire. For those traveling from out of town, nearby hotel options include the Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, and Courtyard by Marriott.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the care team at Empath Hospice for the compassion and care they provided to Bob and his family during his final days.
