Robert Flake Chambliss, Jr, 83, died on May 28, 2022. He was born in Tampa on October 24, 1938, and was predeceased by his parents R. Flake, Sr. and Elizabeth Chambliss, son, Robert “Bob” Chambliss, III, and brother, Clayton G. Chambliss. Flake attended local schools: Mitchell, Wilson, and Plant High School. After graduating from Plant in 1956, he completed his pre-vet studies at University of Florida where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University in 1963. Flake spent one year in Clovis, New Mexico in a feedlot and ranch practice and two years as Post Veterinarian in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. After discharge from the Army, he practiced for a short while with a small animal practice in Dallas, Texas. Flake returned to Tampa in 1968 to raise his family and practice at Tampa Veterinary Hospital where he continued until retirement in 2008. He was a member of local, state and national Veterinary organizations. Flake also served on the Hillsborough County Animal Advisory Committee for several years after retirement. He was a past member of Merrymakers, Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, and Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club and a current member of Tampa Yacht & County Club.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Poppell Chambliss; daughter, Dr. Natalie C. Light and husband Jeff of Dallas, Texas and granddaughter, Eleanor “Ellie” K. Light of London, U.K.; cousins: Julia Chambliss and husband, Jack Fowler; Jim Chambliss and wife Alyson; nephews: Noland & Callis Chambliss; step-children, Victoria C. Martin and husband Ray of Wilmington NC; step-grandchildren: Nelson Martin (Frankie), Ashley Martin, Raymond Martin (Hannah), Allison Tiisler (Rob), and step great-grandchildren: Holden and Colby Martin. The family deeply appreciates the loving care provided by the dedicated nursing staff at Canterbury Tower Health Center, and the many years of care and support by Dr. Rafael W. Blanco, Florida Cancer Specialists.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, June 17, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. in the Hyde Park Presbyterian Church 1309 W. Swann Ave. Tampa, FLorida. Arrangements are being handled by Blount & Curry Funeral Home at MacDill 605 S. MacDill Ave. Tampa, Florida.
