Born in Manhattan, New York to Gumersindo Gonzalez and May Achtefeld, Robert was relocated to Florida as a baby and grew up on a chicken farm with his three siblings. His work ethic, problem solving abilities and mathematical skills led him to the University of Florida where he graduated and had a successful career as an Engineer. His deep faith made him a proud Knight of Columbus, serving tirelessly as Financial Secretary and Grand Knight.
After a courtship of trips to Clearwater Beach, dancing at the Ybor City Matinees and many love letters, Robert married Olga in 1952, recently celebrating 73 years of marriage. Besides his surviving spouse, Olga, Robert is survived by his daughters, Janice (Ralph) and Judy; his Grandchildren, Ryan (Meghan), Kara (Chris) and Emily (Denver); his great-Grandchildren, Callan, Caedan, Arabella and Francesca; and several nieces and nephews.
Robert expressed his love of family in many ways, instilling in us the strength to be independent, strong willed and tenacious individuals just like him, all the while always being nearby to help at any time day or night. He spent many hours teaching his Grandchildren math & science and was so proud when they won science fairs. His love of Christmas, energy for life, inquisitive mind, determination, and stamina are all traits we admire and hope to pass down for generations to come. An irreplaceable treasure, we are thankful for so many adventures together, Disney and Alaska being among his favorites, and will carry him proudly in our hearts forever. We love and miss him terribly.
The family will host a Special Memorial Mass to celebrate the life of Robert (Bob to so many) at St. Paul Catholic Church, 12708 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, Florida, 33618, on April 26, 2025 at 11:30 A.M.
