Sallie Spada, a passionate advocate for animal welfare and founder of Adopt-a-Pet, passed away on May 7, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on December 7, 1940, Sallie lived a life defined by courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of animals.
A longtime resident of Davis Islands, Sallie was known throughout her community and beyond for her fearless dedication to protecting the voiceless. She served for many years as an animal cruelty investigator, standing up against abuse and neglect wherever she found it. In one unforgettable moment that came to define her spirit, Sallie leapt into a canal to rescue a drowning dog — a powerful testament to her bravery and selfless heart.
Through her work with Adopt-a-Pet, Sallie helped unite countless animals with loving homes and tirelessly championed the humane treatment of all creatures. Her generosity was boundless; she personally adopted many animals over the years, offering them the safe and loving lives they deserved.
Sallie’s vibrant personality extended beyond her advocacy. Known for her charm, wit, and radiant spirit, she once won a Suzanne Somers lookalike contest — a fun and fitting tribute to her unique sparkle.
Sallie is survived by her sister, Barbara Spada Callahan (and her husband Michael); her brother, Mark Spada; her sister-in-law, Billie Spada; and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Andy Spada III.

A private memorial service will be held by the family.
