

Leo is survived by his wife of 69 years Merida Olivera. He is also survived by his children, Lidia Valdivia (Armando Salgado), Freddy Olivera (Lory Fernandez) and Lisa Brooks(Nile Brooks); his grandchildren, Adrianna Hernandez (Mike), Thomas Valdivia (Gilenia), Christina Olivera and Jacob and Emily Brooks; his great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Victoria and Audrina Hernandez (Adriana), Peyton Olivera (Christina) and Sirena and Ashley Valdivia (Thomas).
Leo was born in Esperanza, Las Villas, Cuba on April 22, 1931. He was one of six children and has one remaining sibling, Barbara Isabel Valdes.
Leo was known for being impeccably dressed and groomed. His passions were his God, family, fishing and baseball. He loved his Tampa Bay Rays and rarely missed a game. He worked for Borden’s Ice Cream for 28 years and upon retirement he worked as a groundskeeper for Oak Grove Elementary.
He leaves a legacy of love, honor and family first.
A visitation for Leo will be held Friday, March 18, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday, March 19, 2022, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, Gonzalez Funeral Home, 7209 North Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, FL 33614. A funeral service will occur Saturday, March 19, 2022, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, Gonzalez Funeral Home. A committal service will occur Saturday, March 19, 2022, 1:00 PM at Sunset Memory Gardens, 11005 N US 301, Thonotosassa, FL 33592.
