Speros is survived by wife, Eleanor; daughter Anna Barrett (Dr. William (Cincinnati, OH)) and son Aristos (Joanna (Tampa, FL)); Grandchildren Sara Menendez (Noah), William Barrett III, Arista Eldridge (James), and Speros Georgiou, and great grandchildren Josie and Jack Menendez; siblings, Litsa Georgiou (Rahway, NJ) and Paul Georgiou (Baltimore, MD. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evanthia and Aristotle Georgiou.
Speros was born on February 26, 1939, in Mytilene, Lesvos, Greece. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1961 with a degree in political science. He was commissioned as an officer in the US Air Force. He served in Thailand and Vietnam. He met his wife, Eleanor, at MacDill Air Force Base, where they both were stationed. They married in 1965 in Tokyo, Japan. After they moved back to Tampa, Florida, they started their family. Speros began working for Honeywell Aerospace Division and remained there for 30 years. His children and grandchildren remember him as a caring/kind/enduring/ambitious father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Speros was an individual who loved archeology and history. He was an active and dedicated member of the St. John Greek Orthodox Church for 60 years.
The Funeral will be on May 14 at St. John Greek Orthodox Church. Visitation is at 10:00 am with the Funeral Service at 11:00 am and a reception to follow in the church hall. The Burial will be on May 15th at Sarasota National Cemetery at 9:30 am. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Speros' life.
