Sue Smith Simmons, 74, of Tampa, peacefully passed away on July 2, 2018 at home. Sue was born in Pulaski, Tennessee, daughter to the late Sue Elizabeth Horne and Walter B. Smith. She graduated from Vanderbilt University and worked as a teacher in Broward and Hillsborough counties. She married her husband, Edwin Rupert Simmons, in 1968 and lived in Tampa over 40 years.
She was dedicated to the care of her family, always supportive and encouraging. She enjoyed gardening, cross-stitching, Sudoku, and her fur babies. Sue LOVED Christmas, decorating her Christmas tree, cooking her mother’s cornbread dressing, spending time with family, drinking champagne, and ornament shopping with her daughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin. She is survived by her loving daughter, Meagan Simmons DDS, and her husband Alex Steger; granddaughter, Grayson Smith Steger; and sister, Sanderlan Smith.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Sue’s life on Saturday, July 14. Burial will be on Saturday, July 21 at Maplewood Cemetery in Pulaski, Tennessee. Memorial contributions may be made in Sue’s honor to your favorite charity.
