Tanya was born on August 11, 1969, in Jamaica, Queens, New York, to her loving parents, Esther and Harry Sutton. From an early age, Tanya had a gift for bringing people together. She believed deeply in the importance of community and connection and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed, included, and loved.
Raised in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, Tanya was surrounded by a close-knit family. She grew up alongside her mother, sister Holli, grandmother, aunts Dorothy and Regina, and cousins Clarence and Keith, creating cherished memories that would shape her lifelong devotion to family.
Tanya attended Nazareth High School, where she met Sean, a relationship that would become an important chapter in her life. After graduating, she continued her education at Howard University, where she formed lifelong friendships and embraced the rich community that Howard offered. During this time, Tanya and Sean welcomed their beloved daughter, Niara.
After returning briefly to Brooklyn, Tanya relocated to Piscataway, New Jersey, with her daughter, sister, and nephew, Julien, where she continued building a life centered on family, friendship, and opportunity.
For more than twenty-five years, Tanya enjoyed a successful career that showcased her creativity and artistic talent as a graphic designer. She applied her skills across a variety of organizations, from insurance companies to the NBA, leaving her creative mark wherever she worked.
Outside of her career, Tanya's greatest joy came from creating memorable experiences for those she loved. Whether organizing birthday celebrations, planning family vacations, coordinating reunions, or simply gathering loved ones for dinner, she had an extraordinary gift for making every occasion feel special. She delighted in spending time with family at the movies and sharing meals together, and she loved enjoying concerts, escape rooms, game nights, and countless adventures with friends. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate the people she loved, and her greatest happiness came from seeing others feel connected, valued, and cared for.
As the oldest sibling, Tanya embraced the role with confidence and just enough authority to keep everyone on their toes. She had a special talent for volunteering family members to help with projects and events she had enthusiastically planned, often without asking first. Somehow, her charm made it nearly impossible to say no, and looking back, those moments became some of the family's favorite memories. It was simply Tanya's way of bringing everyone together.
Tanya leaves to cherish her memory her loving parents, Esther and Harry Sutton; her siblings, Holli Sutton and Harry Sutton Jr.; her beloved daughter, Niara Sutton; her cherished nephew, Julien, and great-nephew, Cameron; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by her love.
Tanya's unwavering love and passion for her family and friends will forever be cherished. Her legacy is one of togetherness, generosity, laughter, and unconditional love. She taught those around her the importance of showing up for one another, celebrating life's moments both big and small, and creating lasting memories with the people who matter most. Though her earthly journey has ended, the love she poured into others will continue to live on in every gathering, every celebration, and every heart she touched. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
