Ted's lifelong passion started when he joined the United States Air Force following high school graduation. He immediately found his calling as a pilot, flying many aircraft, including the KC-135 Stratotanker aerial refueler in the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he continued to serve his country as a reservist until 1994. Ted was a proud member of the John Darling Masonic Lodge No. 154, the Egypt Temple Shriners, the Military Officers Association of America, as well as the American Legion.

Ted is survived by his daughters, Maurie of Tampa and Thea (David) Schaeffer of Cave Creek, AZ; grandchildren, Ian Schaeffer (Elise) of Amesbury, MA, Rachael Schaeffer of San Diego, CA; and great-granddaughter, Madelyn Schaeffer of Amesbury, MA. His dear soulmate and wife, Joy, predeceased him, as well as all four of his siblings. The interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. Services will be held on March 22, 2024, at Blount & Curry MacDill Life Event Center, Tampa
