Born in Norfolk, VA | A Life Well-Lived: 1954 – 2025
Thomas J. Ownby, 70, of Tampa, passed away peacefully in the arms of his devoted wife of 48 years, Jenifer, who somehow managed to keep him in line (a feat worthy of sainthood).
He also leaves behind his three children: Justin (Alyssa), Jordan, and Katie (Jaime); four grandchildren: Dessa, Turner, Ryder and Charlee; and his half-sister Judee Dick (Ron). His grandchildren brought him endless joy and knew him as “Pop Pop” and “Dad Dad” - the man who never said no to a treat, a toy, or a second scoop of ice cream.
TJ was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. Ownby and Margaret Arthur Koch, and his half-sister Priscilla Koch.
He wove a beautiful life filled with joy, adventure, and deep devotion to faith and family. TJ had a lifelong romance with motorcycles and the open water; sharing those passions with generations. Whether he was cruising down the highway on two wheels or casting a line from his boat, TJ found peace in motion and joy in the journey. Though he has ridden off into the sunset, TJ’s legacy lives on in his strength of spirit, the love he gave, and the stories that will be told for generations.
TJ forged deep friendships along the way; faithful companions who stood by him through every chapter of life. His presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. Heaven just got a little more colorful.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 27th at 11:00am at Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church. Reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church or the Tampa Bay Humane Society.
